This Place Was Made for Makers

At Madjax, we believe creativity belongs to everyone. Whether you're building furniture, a business, or a better way of doing things, this is your space to make it happen.

We’re housed in an old industrial building in downtown Muncie, but what goes on inside is anything but old-school. Artists, tinkerers, tech folks, educators, entrepreneurs—we all show up with ideas and turn them into real things. You can feel that energy the minute you walk in.

A Community That Builds Together

Madjax got its start from a pretty simple idea: What if we turned this massive building into a place where people could come together to build, learn, and grow? Thanks to a lot of collaboration (and a whole lot of elbow grease), we’ve done just that.

Since 2016, the space has been in constant motion—physically and creatively. Walls came down, fresh paint went up, and our first tenants moved in: Tribune Showprint and Book Arts Collaborative. Though both have since moved on to new chapters, their contributions helped lay the foundation for the vibrant maker community we continue to grow today.

The years that followed brought more momentum:

  • In 2017, The Guardian Brewing Company joined the building.

  • 2018 saw our very first First Thursday, and the arrival of JohnTom’s BBQ and Beyond I CAN.

  • By 2019, we had a new sound system, a podcast studio, and major support from the Ball Brothers Foundation.

  • 2020 brought the Design Lab, a reimagined CINTAS truck, and the launch of the Future of Work initiative.

  • In 2021 and 2022, we added aerial silks classes, axe throwing, and new programs like Maker Mondays and the Educator Maker-in-Residence.

  • 2023 marked a major move: the Design Lab relocated to a more accessible space, and parking upgrades made getting here a whole lot easier.

  • In 2024, MadJax hired a new Executive Director to guide the next phase of growth, strengthen community partnerships, and refocus on long-term sustainability.

Every year has been about more than just renovations—it’s about people showing up to try something new, take a risk, or bring an idea to life. That’s what this space is for.

Spaces That Work as Hard as You Do

  • The Maker SPACES has tools, equipment, and space to bring your ideas to life—whether you're into woodworking, digital fabrication, or something in between.

  • The CO:LAB is our coworking space with desks, offices, and meeting rooms that flex to fit your flow.

  • The Courtyard and public spaces host everything from concerts to community markets.

Whatever you’re into, Madjax is here to give you the space—and the support—to keep building.
